I have come on here and said my bike runs the same whether or not there is ethanol in the fuel. Maybe it isn't so afterall. My bike had been sitting in the garage for maybe two weeks with E10 in it. It may have been in the tank for three weeks. On Sunday, I decided I was going for a ride, no matter what else needed doing. So, I left Dahlonega and headed up US19 through Neels Gap. At Vogel State Park, I went west on freshly paved SR180 through Wolf Pen Gap. Descending down towards Suches I'm hearing a lot of popping and farting out my tail pipe! WTH! Not this again. Upon arrival in Suches, I filled up with ethanol free 87 octane gasoline. It took 3.7 gallons to fill it. I crossed the road to TWoS. I had a lovely brisket sandwich chased by a large iced tea. I hung around for a while shooting the breeze with other motorcyclists. From there it's a short ride up to Woody Gap and a long descent down to The Stone Pile. No popping! Closed throttle down the mountain and I never got a pop or a fart! I know this isn't very scientific, but I sure found it interesting.

How's that for a short story long?

OK. Popping caused by low tank. Still, I HATE ETHANOL IN MY GASOLINE! It's fine in my whisky, though.

You were running on fumes. The most I ever squeezed into my tank is 3.9 and I was running on 2 cylinders when I pulled up to the pump and I filled it right to the rim.

Yes, but I really hate letting that get in the way of a good story! I'll take any opportunity to disparage ethanol. I have similar feelings towards high fructose corn syrup. I have to get my Coca-Cola imported from Mexico!

Are those all YOUR mules slipping across the border to supply that need?

I can feel/see the difference when using E0 too Marty. The only people who benefit from ethanol are corn growers. Gasoline fuel systems do NOT benefit from ethanol in any way.

                  Mike,
To be honest I can't tell the difference between E0 and E10 in my XS11. It runs the same either way. It still doesn't make me happy to put that crap in my tank.

                  Greg,
Mexican Coca-Cola, sweetened with sugar (sucrose), still comes across the border legally. Not my mules!

Marty, I cannot tell as much difference between the two fuels on my SF, but can tell a very noticeable difference in my Venturer - performance and MPG. Don't know why there is that difference between the two bikes? I do use the higher octane.

There is a noticeable difference in both, however, when the bikes sit for a while. If E10 is left in the tanks, I will have to do carb maintenance. If E0 is left in the tanks, there is no carb maintenance required. I get similar results with four-wheelers, generators, etc.

Can't really comment on the Coca-Cola thing. I am not a participant in that arena.
