  • Tkat Fork Brace: is it worth recreating?

I'm curious how many of us were waiting and saving up for a Tkat fork brace. If it's only a handful of people, it's not worth anyone's time to recreate it. However, if there were a significant number of people interested, it's well worth at least looking into.

So...raise your virtual hand...Who wants one now that it may be too late?

A good way to prompt him to make more is for all of us that want one to pool our money and order them all at once. It's hard to argue with a large chunk of change.

I already have a brace on my Mongrel, but I'd like to get one for the Standard I'm trying to restore. Depending on when/if this happens, I'd put in for one.

Well, I have one on my XJ, but had thought if I ever end up with another XS (would like a Midnight Special) I would like to put a Tkat Fork Brace on it.

I curious to know the dimensions of the brace for a standard XS:

                1. Distance between inside of fork lowers at dust seals\.

                2. Diameter of fork lowers at dust seals.

Anybody got these handy, i'm 100 miles away from my bike.

                Thanks,

                Randy

Keep in mind there are at least 3 variations of the fork brace that I am aware of. One difference has to do with fork tube diameters, and there are at least 2 different sizes out there. other difference is on height of the fender above the fork tubes; the XJ version, for exapmple has a much higher 'lift' to clear the fender than some other models. The lift was built into the parts that clamp around the fork tubes, not the cross bar.

I am trying to remember the details from a conversation Tkat and I hade about 3 years ago, think the differences come down to:

                      3 different fork tube clamps
                      2 different diameters

Sorry, hit send before I was done....

                        several different fork tube clamps:
**2 different diameters for early/late fork tubes
**2 (possible 3 with the XJ) different hights
I think the cross-braces were all the same, any differences in with between the fork tubes is taken care of at the clamps, but if so that would add a 3rd variable to each clamp set.

If you look at Tkat's post, it says one 'common' file was unreadable; a number of files are used to make all the fork braces for all the models.

If someone wants to take this on, it may be more of a project than you would expect. Its not just making "A" fork brace.
