Has anyone ever toyed with using an electric fuel pump on an XS? What do you think the max/min pressure of the stock system is?

Only reason would be if you were going to fuel inject the bike. Some have went to fuel injection.Nathan

Thanks
I did a search and found several threads telling me how dumb the question was. Should 'a searched first. ClydeGunnery Sergeant, USMC (Retired), (A gung ho, lifer, Devil Dog) Semper Fidelis

Nervous. Just wanted some fuel to show in the inline filters. With tank sitting 2 feet higher than stock the filters show about 3/4 full vs barely visible in stock position.Gunnery Sergeant, USMC (Retired), (A gung ho, lifer, Devil Dog) Semper Fidelis

Is the vent in the gas cap clear? Are the vents in the carbs clear (as well as the hoses and the nipples that the hoses connect to in the airbox)? How old are the filters/are the filters clogged? What type of filters are they?Nathan

Filters are clear and small enough to fit vertically between carb boots. They are hours old and installed with arrow pointing correctly. Quarter inch clear fuel line, no kinks. Totally disassembled and cleaned gas cap (was blocked). Had floats set at 23mm(!) and discovered that the vents were clear and flowed well . I plan to field strip petcocks and carbs again tonight.Gunnery Sergeant, USMC (Retired), (A gung ho, lifer, Devil Dog) Semper Fidelis

The only reason I could think to do this was if you were going to put a couple tanks in the saddle bags then the pump would be used to move the fuel to the main tank...

Just thinking here....Does it really matter? Having a low visible fuel amount in a filter does not make any difference to its performance. The fuel will still flow through and be filtered.
If you are worried about it then disconnect a fuel line and open the petcock to let fuel run out into a container. If you get a steady stream then everything is fine. All I would worry about is that the outlet is lower than the inlet to make sure you don't get an air bubble that stops the flow out.Mike Giroir

Thanks for the input, guys. Cleaning the carbs and petcocks became OBE (Overcome By Events -- babysitting grand kids) until tomorrow. Brandt, regarding "triple cleaning", add a zero to the number 3. I'm about ready to use C4 for the next cleaning (patience is not my strong suit).Gunnery Sergeant, USMC (Retired), (A gung ho, lifer, Devil Dog) Semper Fidelis

Having met Clyde at his place a year ago or so, and being more 'old school', could see he had pretty good 'savvy' when pointed in the right initial direction, specially since he'd done the Chrysler charging system conversion long before he was a member here, IIRC.
Think he kinda likes to figure things out for himself for future references..........unless in a real jam.
As for my lazy tail..........guess I need to get busy re-painting a couple bedrooms so's I can direct my attention to the two new Conti Go tars for the Bentley that just showed up at the man-cave this afternoon.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
