  • Plugs

Apparently NGK BP6ES plugs are no longer available so I've had to buy the new ones with the resistors in them. My issue is the color I'm getting. With the old plugs in my LH, I got good color at 3 1/4 turns out on the idles. With these new ones gapped the same, I'm at 4 turns and they still look brand new, no color at all. Do these plugs run hotter with a double resistor configuration? Bike is running great, no lean condition apparent other than the color. WTF

I do not know if the extra resister makes a difference because I don't run the resistor wires but BPR6 ES plugs run great in my machine. Take her for a good ride with a little stop & go as well as some nice cruising and then read the plugs again. Make sure there is no rainbow type coloring on the ground strap, no aluminum throw-off on the insulator and if that is OK then check down inside the plug with a small light and a magnifying glass. If there is a slight brown ring around the insulator about 1/3 of the way up (gotta look for it) then your mixture is in a good range. If these things check out I would not worry about it too much.

        Thanx

I only put maybe 30 miles on after tuning, and most of it was through farm land so my speed was under 60 mph all the time. The straps look good so heat range and timing are ok. It's just the porcellin is still pristine. I'm cleaning up the old plugs in the ultra sound right now and will reinstall them after I run these new ones for a awhile and if nothing changes, I'll put the old ones back in and see if I get the old color back. That will tell me plenty.

NGK makes no mention of them being discontinued.

If anything you may lose a little of the oomph in the spark, but the heat range is the same.

I just went on the NGK site. According to it, BP6ES is not discontinued.

                    Could be

I've only hit my usual haunts and have been told they don't stock them anymore. I will throw a wider loop if I can get away for an hour tomorrow. Seems to me I bought a case of them a few years ago but they are buried upstairs in the shop under some lumber and deck furnature etc. It's not worth my time to spend a day unloading everything and searching. I figure they will be a nice surprise someday when I actualy take the time to organize the upstairs. Probably find some of the tools I've been missing for months now.

                      Mack,

I'll bring a can of that Bartender's Friend (if you still want it). I can also bring up 8 NKG BP6ES Plugs. I think I paid us$4.15 each but I'll check. Let me know and I'll be happy to be the mule.
