  • carb ?s and cylinder 2 cooler than other 3

Hi all, I have a couple of carb questions, first, I've cleaned all 4 carbs, torn down almost completely and cleaned, and bench synched using the bread bag tie method and notice that when I do that the idle is way to high on start up, it'll jump to around 4k rpm, so I will have to bring it way down to have it idle at around 1100 rpm, and when I do that, the butterflys will be almost completely shut, not sure if that is normal or not.
Second, I notice that cylinder 2 is running cooler than the other 3, I noticed this when I saw the header pipes are purple-ish around the other 3 cylinders and #2 is still yellow, it is still hot, just not as hot as the other cylinders. While its running I will take the ignition wire off of cylinder 2 and it will create a misfire, so I know I have decent spark, spark plugs are newer, floats are set, only thing I haven't done is check the valve adjustment, but wanted to run this past the masses before I tear into that. It seems to run decent, I do have pods with velocity stacks installed as well, but this has been an issue even before that, carbs are with stock jets.
Third, what would you suggest for carb tuning/synching? Colortune? Old school mercury gauges?
    Thanks for the input/suggestions!

Colortune seems to get mixed responses......not necessary as you can tune in the idle mix with a manometer using mercury or the CarbTune. My method of setting idle mixes is the ole' standby method of 'lean drop'. I use this method as you would on carb. auto applications. Highest in. vacuum method works, but leaves idle mixture on the rich side. 'Lean drop' method is highest idle or highest vacuum, then gradually coming back in with screw untill slightest sound change is heard, then back screw out 1/8th to 1/4 turn being max..
