  • ACCT Mod - What to buy?

After reading through a ton of posts this seemed like a no brainer but after buying 2 that don't fit I'm just going to ask. I only plan on buying 1 more of these damn things and apparently I can't do it unassisted.

Is there one I can buy that has the same size and bolt pattern?
So far I tried the Raptor and the Vision. Neither of these are close even though they are listed as options.

On a side note if anyone wants the worthless tensioner I already have they are up for grabs.

Thank you! That is the type of answer I was hoping for.
I'm still gun shy after buying, waiting and failing twice in a row.
Can I get validation that this part is what I'm looking for?

My vision tensioner was barely off on the thread holes and with a few strokes of a round file it went right in.

That's the 'correct bolt-in' tensioner, but be aware that even these sometimes need a little round file work to fit without binding on the bolts. Both the Raptor and Vision tensioners fit, but do need some file work....

I used the tensioner assembly and gasket for a 660 Raptor on My 1980 and it fit with no change filing etc. It bolted on like it was made for it. However years ago when I got the original replacement part from Yamaha it I had to file some to make it bolt up straight.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

I just fitted my second VMax ACCT. Both times, a very slight adjustment was needed with a round file on one of the holes. Half a dozen strokes of the file and that was it....

                Thanks for all that help.
I'll pick up a rat tail while I wait for the new part.

The Raptor bolt pattern doesn't look close when I eye ball it and the vision acct that I got second was closer but still seemed more than a couple strokes of a file away from fitting.

Either way I have both if anyone is interested.

Yes, clearly I saw that post and while it had a lot of information ultimately it wasn't direct enough.

This is a simple mod and a clear breakdown of the optimal acct to buy was all I needed. While some of them can be made to fit when they are all inexpensive and readily available I would rather just buy the best fitting/closest match. I'm not going to wedge something in there if there is a $20 part I can buy that fits.

That said the 2 I did buy can be had for the price of shipping if anyone wants to try and make them work. I'm just not comfortable with the fit and would rather use my stock tensioner or a manual replacement if I can't get one that fits.

I fit a Raptor tensioner on a members bike recently and the holes were just a bit off. I just drilled both holes out with the next size larger drill bit and it fit just fine.

Yeah, I have read more then a few posts that say the same thing and I'm amazed every time because of the way the bolt pattern is rotated on the Raptor acct.

The good news is that even though I won't use it someone else may want to.

With changing of the tensioner, whatever your choice, you can't use the original tensioner's bolts as they are too long, and those are 'bottom holes. Some head castings in that area will have a little casting burr hanging out, and it won't actually be pulled up tight, and will leak....DAHIK. Just a couple precautions, along with making sure bike is on centerstand and timing indicator and rotation are done CORRECTLY before any removal.
