  • XJ Cams

Quick question. In the megacycle catalog it says: "XJ models - stock timing (more radical than XS stock models)". Does this mean that you can swap XJ cams into an XS11 for a more aggressive timing???
78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]
79 F - gas tank refurb, headgasket change, straight pipes, late model carbs, virago lowering shocks, special headlight and gauges, TC fuse block, GSXR-1100 carbs (WIP)

Short answer, no. The XJ cams are the same as the '80-81 XS cams. While these have slightly more exhaust lift compared to the '78-79 cams, they have considerably less duration and are 'milder' in that they have better low-end power while giving up some at the top of the tach.
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

'78E original owner - resto project
    '78E ???? owner - Modder project FJ forks, 4-piston calipers F/R, 160/80-16 rear tire
    '82 XJ rebuild project
    '80SG restified, red SOLD
    '79F parts...
    '81H more parts...

    Other current bikes:
    '93 XL1200 Anniversary Sportster 85RWHP
    '86 XL883/1200 Chopper
    '82 XL1000 w/1450cc Buell, Baker 6-speed, in-progress project
Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
    Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

Just wait until you see my next thread...

Thanks for the info, Steve. I'm trying to see if there are any year of cams I can swap in to decrease the valve overlap. It looks like I'm going to be forced to pay $500 for some megacycle cams to eliminate the overlap...
