rear differential clicking noise

In a vain attempt to eliminate this annoying clicking noise that seems to be coming from the rear differential I have:

1. Replaced the rear wheel bearings.
2. Replaced the U-Joint
3. Cleaned and lubricated all points in between.

I can only assume that there is something within the differential causing this annoyance. If anyone can give me some advice or information in this regard I would be extremely grateful.

Steptoe posted a video about this clicking..... I watched it ages ago. A clicking connected with the rotation of the rear wheel. He sorted it out. Can't member how though! It's in the threads somewhere...

It appears that there are two o rings located between the clutch hub and where it interfaces with the rear wheel that need to be replaced to eliminate the rear wheel clicking noise. Presently have them on order and upon replacement will report on the results.

Many of the Yamaha Royal Star Venture develops a rear wheel click. You can hear it when backing the bike up and going forward at low speeds. The fix for them is to remove the rear wheel clutch hub damper and grease the damper pins and clutch hub with Honda Moly 60 grease. The Venture rear ends are very similar to our XS11s.

Honda Moly 60 grease...not just any grease...this is what i use on my honda rear drive splines when i change out the rear tire.

Clutch Hub Solution (Cicking noise in rear wheel)

After removing the rear wheel, I removed the rear rotor to access the clutch hub. The clutch hub is secured to the main hub by what appears to be bolts. They are in fact bolts but are used as positioning pins for the clutch hub mating to the hub. To remove the clutch hub requires that a punch be used to tap out the positioning bolts (pins) and the clutch hub will separate from the hub. Once the clutch hub is separated it should be thoroughly cleaned. The hub should be cleaned in a similar manner. There are two O rings on the hub that should be replaced. These can be obtained at Boats.net. Once the O rings have been replaced the hub and the clutch hub should be thoroughly lubricated and reassembled. This procedure eliminated the clicking noise in the rear wheel.
