        SORRY, I didn't see your post until after I editted his!

        Doc, that gap does look excessive! I'm wondering if the inner race of the left side bearing of the wheel is hanging up on something inside the rim??

          If something is wrong, the axle will bind when tightened to 100 ft/lb and/or the hole for the cotter pin in the axle will not be at the correct depth in relation to the castle nut. JAT

          Also, the spacer in the bearing in the pic in post # 4 does not look like the correct one, it looks too fat or it is in backwards.

            I went and looked at mine earlier and it looks about the same. 1/16" to 1/8".

            If it isn't binding or making noise I would say it's OK.
