I would really like to know the source of the exhaust. Cost is comparative to new stock systems. I would be curious to know if they are in the business of building a new system for a special. My thinking being that if it were new then I could have it sent out to have a black chrome finish put on it. No one wants to mess with used systems for re chroming in any color but if it were brand new then I think the story might be different. Believe it would be worth looking into if you could divulge the source. If you want you can PM me with that information if it does not need to be shared publicly.
By the way ..... beautiful job so far on that machine. It looks awesome.

He gave me a discount on the exhaust because of the modifications I had to do to the last one. He speaks good English and is a nice friendly bloke. When I mentioned the tweaks the last one needed he offered the discount and stuck to his word nine months later.....XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. Bjorn told me it's two men in a barn (he calls them MIB) who make them to order. Mine took 3 months from the date. I ordered it.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. Looks better than the previous one James.
The guy who builds them is Heinz Weys. His details are on the German site.
This is his emailadress: ... wyes.heinz@arcor.de
The guy on Ebay just sells them. My bet is you can get them cheaper if you contact Heinz directly.
He also builds the short system and one for the 750/850.XS1100 3X0 '82 restomod, 2H9 '78 chain drive racer, 3H3 '79 customized.

I'm not sure if this is the actual manufacturer of the systems I bought. The top picture shows an exhaust which is different from mine. The headers pipe sockets on the silencer and hanging brackets are different,

Would you have to pay import duty in the US? I'd be surprised if not, as I have to pay on US items that come here.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. I hope cutting out
the middle man makes a difference. The guy from the listing emailed me back and stated that the pipes could be made for a special at the same price as in the listing with and extra 100 Euro for shipping to the US. Tentative price with shipping coming to 1869.47 USD. Hopefully Mathh could do better going to the source.2 - 80 LGs bought one new

Well, I did send some emails to Germany as those exhausts have been discussed extensively on their forum. Still waiting for some answers though.
What i did find out is that both the Ebay seller "der Müde" and Heinz Wyes are middle men. The real producer is also situated in Germany and also makes exhausts for other motorcycles than the XS1100, but apparantly he has no website. I also found out that the stock headers can be used in combination with the stainless mufflers.
So you will hear from me again, I hope soon.XS1100 3X0 '82 restomod, 2H9 '78 chain drive racer, 3H3 '79 customized.

Little update
Not much progress recently as I'm awaiting the respray on the tank etc. I don't do this myself as I can't do it well enough. Although Europe has banned two-pack paints for cars, they are still allowed for bikes. So the spray shop will use twin pack paint and put the decals under the lacquer. The better quality decals are thinner than others and therefore bulge less under the lacquer.
I fitted the newly-chromed pillion rail to the seat using new positioning grommets which are still readily available here...
Incidentally, these pillion rails were often put upside down on the XS1100, even when new. The Haynes manual actually shows a new bike and the rail is upside down. This spoils the line of the rail which is supposed to follow the angle of the rear of the seat (and the rear seat fairing), curling round to line up with the metal seat trims.....have a look at this....
The lines are all wrong. This way of putting the rail on is often duplicated when people fit the rail later in the bike's life...... Tut tuthere's one
