  • Headlight died...weeeeeeeee

I'm at work with my bike disassembled.

Tested for power at headlight plug, nada.
    Checked fuses, all good.

Generator puts out enough power for everything and headlight reserve unit was already removed last year.

Next attack is my relay under the tank.

Yep, the relay can be taken apart and repaired, it's usually just a broken solder joint. In the meantime, you can unplug the relay and jump blu/blk and red/yel in the harness plug and you should have headlight when the key is turned on.

What if you just keep the jumpers in?

I used HID which takes almost no power to compared a standard bulb

I keep getting work, so i havent gotten to testing that yet

Yep, you can leave that jumper in indefinitely if you want, no harm. I've run mine that way for a couple of years, but with a standard H4 bulb.

Relay bypass worked like a charm...Time to take apart the relay and see whats up inside it

I've never seen a bike with as many issues as Excelssior. Hopefully as soon as you get all these issues worked-out, it'll be a fine-running bike.

You must remember....I traded a shotgun for an abused ( what looked like ) bike...and a box of parts.

thankfully this forum has been SOOOOOOOOOOO helpful in keeping this heap alive

OH...and It's been my DD most of this time...its been wonderful!

Well, I tried to solder it with a co workers soldergun...

                    It wouldnt stick.

Gonna use mine when I get home. Till then, its bypassed ( like everything else on this bike )

                      Hid

                      Sparky

How much difference does the HID kit make? I have been looking at some listings for those on Ebay and they seem reasonably priced. Just wondering about how much difference they make.

I really like mine. Seems a bit brighter on the road, and definitely more noticeable to oncoming traffic.

Hid bulbs need to be inside a projector housing to work correctly. Just putting a hid bulb on a regular halogen light housing is just going to blind everyone else as you drive. Don't be that guy.
