On a side note, what will you be doing with your old seat? I might take it off your hands.....

Gabe- As you read on Garrett's build, he ended-up using his son's skateboard as a base, and used the Harley padding/foam on-top of that. He tried three different seats before he made his own.1979 XS1100F

Read through DaBubble's thread on his build, he made his own seat base in GRP using the frame rails taped over as the mould, a big plastic sheet over the bike stopped any mess.
I copied the idea to make a base for a customers Kwak Z13 Trike, it works really well and is the best way to get a decent fit base.Tom

The only things I've bought is a rear render (which will bolt on), virago 11.5" shocks, and a seat. The frame rear frame is going to be shortened to make the fender fit the seat and I'm already mocking up a mount for the harley seat I think might work. That's not to say I'll actually make it anywhere with that. I've never fit a different seat to an entirely different frame before so I'm expecting for this to be an adventure of sorts.Last edited by D0wn5h1ft; 01-31-2014, 08:28 AM.78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]

the difference is that the black bike has it's fork tubes moved up through the tripletrees and has shorter than stock rear shocks while the red/blue/rust bike has the normal stance.
I swear I dunno about the motivation of guys who fit solo seats.
While not everyone wants to pick up a blonde chick and take off for the coast, if you ain't got a place to put her, you can't.Fred Hill, S'toon

1: He has a very lovely wife and family at home and wouldn't do that.
2: Scott ate his Wheaties growing up. He's a big ol' boy and I'm betting he couldn't do that even if there was a back seat attached.. lol.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

1) Without a rear seat he can't park the kids with the grandfolks and take his lovely wife to the coast neither.
2) As he has the skills to make a shorter seat, those same skills can surely make a longer one?
And if all else fails, he can fit a sidecar and take the whole tribe!Fred Hill, S'toon

you are absolutely right about the bike.
It's what the solo seat says about the rider.

if you decide to go for that Special gas tank, it's drilled out lock will swap with the lock in your Standard tank so you can stay with one key operation.Fred Hill, S'toon
