  • Megacycle Cams

I'm thinking about getting a spare motor and building it to swap into my XS, I saw all the posts about all the overbore kits and will probably go with the nicer Wiseco forged pistons as I may be putting a turbo/converting to fuel injection on the bike eventually.

Only camshaft's I could find were for the ones made by Megacycle, does anyone have any experience with these? I have read they can add incredible midrange torque.

Also, is there a legitimate safe limit to rev these motors out to? The build would most likely be stock crank and rods, big bore forged pistons, cams with springs/retainers/etc. Any guesses what a safe rev limit would be?

Also, any other precautions you guys can think of? Obviously oil cooler, has anyone ever made a custom cylinder block with larger air fins/etc. like they do for the GS for the really big bore kits? Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated

    Thanks

I highly recommend you search for post and info by Dan Hodges. He has over the years tries about every combination and methodology possible and dyno tested for results. Not sure he ever went turbo with it. But his info may give you a lot of insight into what is truly possible. And what results to expect.

If you're thinking about a turbo down the road, keep in mind that too much cam duration/overlap is a bad thing as you'll blow your boost out the exhaust.

Getting large power out of these normally aspirated is an expensive proposition.....

          Have a look here, http://www.xs11.com/forum
I am the proud owner of BDF's XS "Hot Rod" build and it's an amazing ride. It will go faster than I want to go (well once or twice) . Excellent throttle response all the way to the top end. I can average around 32mpg if I go easy on the throttle, 30mpg most of the time. 165km/h is the fastest it's been pushed to which is a bit higher than what BDF had recorded on the Dyno .

It's not too loud but after 5000rpm it sounds like a F1car and vehicles behind start to back off to 4 or 5 car lengths away. One of the things I really enjoy

When riding with higher revs the weakest part will be your HyVo chain. A friend of mine is into classic endurance racing and spilled an engine because his chain broke and made a large hole in his engine destroying it beyond repair.

good project ! but it's a lot of work to make a race bike with a xs 11 , the "big" probleme is the weight !! for the engine try to have power at 6000 to 9000 not over 9500 because over 9500 the engine was "fragile" , i see it at Spa in 2008
