  • EBC Clutch Tool for 1980 XS1100LG

    Hello all,

Does anyone know if EBC makes a clutch tool for the 1980 XS1100LG?

If so, what is the number of the tool?

    Many thanks and best regards....

What are you trying to do that you need a specific or special tool for? All of the mounting hardware is typical nuts and bolts.

      Thanks for your reply....

Thanks for replying to my post...

I'm going to replace some of the gears in the transmission and I would like to use a clutch holding tool to minimize the chance of breaking the basket...

Also, If there is a tool available (at a reasonable cost), I would prefer to use the correct tool rather than jam something in the rear wheel (particularly when re-torquing the nut).

(No offense to those who jam something in the rear wheel).

      Thanks....

No offense taken. But, there is a wedge cast into the engine case made for inserting a screwdriver, to hold the driven gear ( or the mainshaft gear? been a while). I've used that with good results, too

Rod posted a pic of that boss not to long ago. It is by the primary shaft gear that drives the outer clutch basket. Personally I use the rear brake to hold the wheel and granny when I tighten the clutch nut.

            Thank you....

            Thanks for replying...

I think I did see that photo...

I'll check it out as I haven't made it into the transmission yet...I'm still rebuilding the calipers and master cylinders...

There's no big hurry because the last time I looked, it was just 21 degrees outside and that's a bit to cold for riding...at least for me....

            Thanks again....

I bought one of those tools 20+ years ago and it bent into a pretzel, you are probably better off using one of the methods mentioned above, they work every time. An impact gun should do the trick.

They are to hold the clutch from spinning while the engine is out of the frame on the bench for disassembly.
