You guys are awesome! But now you've made the choice EVEN HARDER! Just kidding, thanks for all the great info and discussion ... seems like the TKat has been proven to work well in actual practice, at least among the members here.

              • [QUOTE=crazy steve;428351]'Sturdy' is a question-begging term....

Any fork brace is designed to reduce flex. A casting is inherently less flexible and more stable in it's dimensions (which is why engine blocks and gear cases are almost always cast) so that would make the die-cast Tarozzi brace seemingly the better choice. But being a casting, it's less precise unless it's mating surfaces have been machined and if the flex becomes excessive, it will be more prone to break.

The Tkat brace is fully machined out of billet and will allow more flex before failure, so it won't be quite as rigid. The Tkat also has smaller mating surfaces for the 'bridge' that connects the two fork clamps compared to the Tarozzi, giving poorer leverage against flex, although that is probably a wash given the Tkat is fully machined.

Both are five piece designs and are less rigid than ones with fewer pieces.

The good brace to get is the now-out-of-production Telefix, a four piece design (and patented). A fully-machined casting, it's a superior design that has the best features of both the Tkat and Tarozzi but with much less flex.

I remember you stating your preference being Micron
                BAMN!

Darn had a chance to get a telefix at a good price, passed it up for a micron that cost twice as much.

Its mine and we have bonded...LOL...I love this bike...I am seriously considering selling my ST1100 as I just dont need 2 bikes anymore...My LD riding is not as long and I have grown tired of the truly long haul that is the ST's mission...The XS can do just as well...been looking for a nice yamaha branded fairing like what you see on the '81 Venturer......and then I can turn this into a full dress tourer..

                            • And the ATK

I installed this on my friends SF, which I now own but haven't ridden yet, and he reported that it gave a better response to the steering.

Although this ATK looks like it will adapt to either the Standard or Special by spacer choice, the bore when tightened, was loose on my '80G but fit well on the SF.

                              • It is my understanding, that only Torozzi, Tkat, and hoop style braces are available for the XS1100. Is this correct? Obviously, I'm leaving out the used market.
