Check the main power wire from the battery. That's the smaller red wire coming from the + side of the battery. Mine has broken a couple of times.

Also, make sure all the fuses are good and making good contact. Did Randy put an upgraded fuse box on there?

Just to make sure, you did charge the battery before installing it?

Is it one of those "superior" expensive batteries.

                Battery

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the clutch cable on Yami.
Also had the air filter out and removed two fuel lines.
When I went to start Yami, had nothing. No lights on dash. Did not touch the battery. I started with checking battery volts and then followed the cables. Nothing at the end of the red, pos cable. Removed both cables, cleaned the ends bright and shiny, and things worked again.
Also added water to the battery. No problems since.
Another issue I had earlier was with the key switch. Sometimes nothing on the dash, which is usually a green neutral light and a red charging light. Took the switch apart, cleaned it and that fixed that problem.

                  Hey BNE,

Did you get that Pulse Charger/Minder from Northern Tool on Friday???

Would highly suggest you put water in your alleged previously dead battery and let it sit there for a few weeks!!!! Just make sure it has ~10.5 volts or more before starting to try to use the Pulse charger. IF it shows less volts, put it on your regular charger first if nothing else to get a surface charge to at least 10.5 volts, then put it on the Pulse Charger!!!

Reading the instructions/info pamphlet that came with the Pulse Charger, it can be used for AGM and other special style batteries as well as plain wet acid types! So if you have to boost/start your old battery on the regular charger, then put the NEW ONE on the pulse charger for a day or two to truly top it off!

                      Yes,

You have upgraded fuses in there.

How the other battery was boiled dry would worry me, though. Other than minor stuff like a bulb or fuse, I never had electrical problems in 9 years, and definitely nothing this major.

You may have a dead short through the reg/rect. Unplug then test.

That's all I can do from here, the obvious has already been posted.

One thing, though. There is a plug on the red lead, very close to the battery. Make sure it's connected or you have nothing feeding the wire harness, as a double check, short the solenoid with a screwdriver, if it cranks your battery is good. Key does not have to be on for that test. Lower left of this photo is the connector.

I think the battery boiled dry because i did not payattn to or maintain its fluid levels...i only had the charger on 2 hrs on the 2 amp cycle and it was enough...I have yet to go out and look at it again...

                          Crap Update

Had to wait for the weekend to catch up with this ...went out and bought a small DVM and the Battery Minder Plus...came home and measured the new gel battery and it was 12.7 volts...so the battery was good...hooked it up to the new battery charger/minder and within 10 mins or so the battery was @ 13.5 volts and the green light on the minder was flashing meaning it was in maintainence mode for a fully charged batt.
Then I went out to the stable and started with the simple stuff...checked the blade fuses and ssure enough the 30amp Main fuse was blown... replaced with a good fuse and installed batt. turned the key and we have power...hit the starter and she fired right up...woo hoo..we're back in bizness...
BTW Marty the battery I bought is made by DEKA...who knew?

That fuse might be all that was wrong with it in the first place.

I dont think so Greg..because the old battery was low...and there was a charge in it but not enough to crank the motor so at that point all fuses were good...now i didnt take the old battery out of the bike...just connected the charger to it ...I should have taken the batt. out and i would have seen the cells that would be low on h2o but since i didnt do that I basically just boiled up what was left in there plus at that point blew the main fuse. 2 amp charge for 2 hrs was more than enough to fry it ...i guess...so ther you have it...the main reason I wanted a sealed AGM battery,,,because i suck at keeping batteries maintained...so now the new battery minder will keep things fresh. One less thing I need to do...more time to ride.
Now i have tried to resurrect the old battery with a quick charge then a slow charge as TC is trying to do but the old battery wont take any charge at all so it is indeed toasted... All is as it should be...ommmmmm
