Oil pan drain plug

I didn't realize the XJ frame was that different.

Must have been hell fixing XJOK2PLAY's oil pump in a parking lot.

We didn't fix it until we got it home. COULD have.. just thought more things were tore up than there were.

MUCH more fun tearing the back end and middle drive out of a bike in a truck stop.

I was going to say earlier that you could just go on ahead and we'll catch up after you disassemble and reassemble your bike and we'll just get a hotel where ever that happens like last year.

Back on subject...

I pulled one of those hollow bolts mentioned from another motor, then grabbed another pan and checked. That bolt will go way into the 2nd set of threads on that pan. Looks like it's going to work, but I'll miss my magnetic plug. Oh well.. I've got a magnet in the oil pan as well.

You remember incorrectly.. lol. And it's not a little guy. Pretty decent sized bolt.

As I said, I grabbed another pan and gave it a try.

The center insert wasnt reversed??

The ones I used to mess with were I thought, that way you wouldnt loosen the rethreaded section

The center insert is kind of corkscrew grooved, but not sure why since the inside of the bolt is smooth-walled.

But the bolt itself is standard threaded to the right.

I think the grooves are for oil to get in there. I bet you could find a little round magnet an epoxy it in there.

So you have a magnet JB Welded to the bottom of your oil pan ?

My SH does not have a magnetic drain plug, I'm used to having these on the XS650s and would really like to have one on the SH11.
Make my own ?
I've picked up many different magnets along the way, some little tiny ones that are really powerful.

It's a magnet out of a microwave. Thin/flat and looks like donut. And no, no JB weld. It's just stuck to the bottom of the pan.

How would it stick to the pan? The pan is non magnetic aluminum.

Well crap.. Thanks a lot Nate. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I did drop that in the pan.. thinking it would be perfect in there.. nice and flat, powerful... or if I just thought a lot about doing it.

I've got one a lot like it in behind the oil filter cup of my dirt bike. Same kind of setup sort of as ours, but smaller. Filter inside a cup. It's stuck to the filter metal.

One way to find out, see if another magnet sticks to the pan, eh? Surely I wouldn't have let one just flop around in there? Crap... Now I'll have to check tomorrow. But thinking now that's why I got the magnetic plug?
