The Right Stuff

I'm ready to cover up the trans on my SH, I bought the right stuff.
Before I start I thought I'd ask how to do it right ?
Use a very small amount and spread it thin on the covers ?
Never used this before, after using some of it how long before the can becomes solid/stiffens up to make the can useless ?

Those covers have really good surfaces and seal up pretty easy. It doesn't take much at all.

Too much and it'll squish out into the crank case and possibly restrict the oil pump pick up screen

It works great. just don't use it on the cylinder head, as the nooks and crannies are hard to get around.

I put the cases together with that stuff, but use The Right Stuff everywhere else. Haven't had a lot of luck using it on the oil pan, sidecovers, and such. Plus, it's a lot more of a PITA to get cleaned off of everything when you go back in. Right Stuff peels away nicely.

I LOVE the Right Stuff! Every gasket except for the Head gasket and the float bowl gaskets can be replaced with it. Cut a nice small hole in the end of the applicator tip and screw it onto the can. Push it sideways and the stuff should start flowing. Be careful at the end of a "run", as it will continue to come out a bit, and can make a mess.

Just lay down a small bead down the center of the mating surfaces (only one side, usually the cover, not the case), making sure to encircle all bolt holes. Don't spread I around. Once you press the pieces together, it will bleed into the bolt holes, and act like Loctite, so there is no need to use Loctite on those covers. Be sure that the mating surfaces are really clean, and free of oil before application. I always rinse the surfaces with brake parts cleaner to remove all residue from oily fingerprints.

When you're done, remove the applicator tip and let the stuff dry inside it. You can press it out later with a coat hanger. Press the tube sideways a little to make a blob form on top of the tube and let it dry that way, forming a sealed "cap" to the can. The next time you want to use the can, just pull that blob, and the entire contents of the tube will come out.

I use it everywhere, I've even used it on car engines at work. It's not difficult to get if off of stuff. It seals a lot better too I think. Much less seepage at contact points, almost none.

Your not. IMO, Yamabond is from the dark ages. If you want the mating surfaces to gradually weep over a period of time seep......use it. The 1194 Greg showed IS a bit better. Pan and both sidecovers on my XS are on with a thin film of Ultra Grey(same as the black, but don't show an edge) some 5yrs. ago. Neither of those three covers have so much as a weep nor gaskets.
