Tire pressure & mileage question

I run Shinkos. 40 front, 42 rear. Handles light, rides smoother than with other tires, (Dunlop, Metzelers) at the same presssure. MPG varies, but 33-36 local and up to 38-39 highway. I have to drive 70 miles to legally go over 55, so must of my driving is at that speed or slower. Longer trips make better mileage than short hops to the store and back.
Oh, and I use dino oil.

On my resent trip to the Co Rally I ran 30 psi (gauge measured incorrectly set to 40 psi shortly after arriving) in front and rear with that I averaged 47 MPG On the way there

On the way home I averaged 45 MPG with the 40 PSI.

Part of the equation is it seemed to be more down hill from Ogden to Grand Junction. So I may have gotten better gas mileage on the way to the rally if the tires were properly inflated.

You aren't twisting the throttle hard enough!

Mstly mountain type riding/higher elevations in my area, with similar mountain riding mileages.

I was told by a tire company rep to always run the max treasure listed on the side of the tire. Bike tires somewhere along the way were changed from bias ply to semi radial design and the semi redial tires need more pressure than listed in the manual for the bike.

My '80G full dresser has scary slow speed steering if the front tire is under 40 psi. , feels like it's in mud. Running new Conti-Go front & rear and the front tread direction is reversed or opposite the rear tread. Not sure about mpg's but my spm's (smiles per mile) are great.

+1 on the Conti-Go tires......42psi front/rear.

I was a real stick in the mud about using only the factory specs for tire pressure until I had a chance to talk to someone that actually knew why tires should be inflated to max pressure listed on the tire...

I just got a new rear tire...Conti Go.
