    Head and cylinders are off the engine. I didn't find any junk up there. The aluminum shavings must have went right to the pan and stayed there. The side cover is still useable, but I'll be looking for an XJ clutch cover anyway.

      Head cleaning

      I always take the time to clean the oil passages in the heads when there off. Just like cleaning gun barrels. Then a couple shots of carb cleaner, compressed air and your done, confident that your oil flow is optimal throughout. All my motors had sat for 15 or more years and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out of those passages.
