  • Emissions -Help please

[So I took my bike in to transfer the title - spent an hour at AAA getting the run around -sent me to the DMV - spent two hours there]

Bottom line; any bike manufactured after 78 that's over 50cc needs an emission sticker to be titled in California!
    Help!
Does anybody know if there was ever one on these bikes- if yes where would it be - if not.....
Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Cheers,
    Lazer

    California DMV http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm says:

Does my vehicle qualify for a smog exemption?
Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:
    Hybrid
Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older
Diesel powered 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs
    Electric
Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs.
    Motorcycle

Not sure the clerk you got knew what they were doing. If the law hasn't changed then you should be able to Title a bike without an emissions test. Will be interesting to hear from a couple other Calif XSives if that is correct or not. Yes, you are gas powered and Yes, after 1975 but you are Motorcycle which should be EXEMPT according to Calif DMV.

Look behind the left-hand side cover

      Lazer,

The Emission Control sticker is under the left-hand plastic side cover.
