  • Oil leaking from behind stator cover [Galley Plug O-Ring Size?]

So I have some oil leaking from behind my stator cover and from the searches I've done on this forum it seems like it is probably coming from a bad o-ring on my galley plug. Does anyone have a link to a online store that sells them? Or would anyone happen to know what size it is? My only means of transportation right now is my bike otherwise I'd just take out the galley plug and take it into home depot or something.
78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]
79 F - gas tank refurb, headgasket change, straight pipes, late model carbs, virago lowering shocks, special headlight and gauges, TC fuse block, GSXR-1100 carbs (WIP)

Once I get home, I can look up the size for you. Keep in mind, it may also be the crank seal leaking.

Even if its the crank end seal, its not a big problem. Whilst the OEM seals have a lip which is retained by the crankcase halves, it can be removed without splitting the cases and a replacement put in. There are threads on this forum about this. The OEM seal is forced out, breaking off the lip which is retained by the crankcase halves, and a normal oil seal, without a lip, used to replace it, tapped in like any other oil seal (eg gear lever shaft)

WHAT!?!? You're going to leave a piece of metal in there rolling and scraping around on your crank? Definitely not. When taking the old seal out, get it all out, including the metal lip, which I've never seen break off.

If in fact it is the crank seal, (More likely than the galley plug) then the rotor can be a pain to get off. You'll need a pulley puller or a bolt to fit the inside of the rotor (I forget the size, but a 1.25mm thread.. oddball). If buying seals, I suggest a good double lipped seal such as these.

Most are just a single lip of rubber riding on the crank. These have two.

What? triple exclamation mark, question mark, punctuation ad lib . Course not leave it in. You misunderstood my post. I didn't say leave the lip in situ. I said it can break off....I've tried it several times..... And I referred to it as the lip which is retained by the crankcase..... Relative clause....not a suggestion to leave it there....

two lips seal better on the crank?

I bought a new crankcase seal and when I figure out how to get this rotor off I'll install it .

I remember looking at a parts list once, and I seem to remember the '78 having those seals swapped. One is larger, one is smaller, and if you only ordered one... I'd make sure you have the right one. I've slept since then, but I think you need the smaller 45mm one for that right side. Also, if you bought an OEM seal, and it has the lip on it, you'll have to split the cases to install it.
