I just use the Wallyworld housbrand (Supertech I think) full synthetic 75w 140 in the middle and final drives. Change it every spring because I have been known to put 10,000mi + on my bike every summer.

It's about $12 a quart and does both drives with some left over.

My middle drive aways comes out clean but the 850FD I've abused for 4 or 5 years gets a little dark but not black.

I disagree with your opinion on the dyno gear oil vs the full synthetic Mike. The reason I started using the full syn 75w 140 in the drives is that's what HAS TO be used in the differentials on the newer Ford F150s. If you run anything else the will be noisy until they tear themselves up completely. Another of Fords "better ideas".

It makes the drives on the bike run much quieter and cooler. Lubricants have vastly improved over the last 35 years.

75-140w diff. lube IS replacement viscosity for 80-90w dino diff. lube.

+1 on diff. lube of late model vehicles being synthetic. My F-350 diff. also requires 75-140w syn. oil ONLY.

HMMM... My last two changes have been Royal Purple 75W140, but before that I had run Mobil 1 75W90. It doesn't appear to have done any harm. I'd leave it in for now. Get the 75W140 in your cabinet for when the change is due.
