If you look under the tank on the right hand side you will find a brown connector with about 6 wires in it. If I remember right it has the brown and green wires for the rear turn signal lights running thru it. If you push or pull the wires individually in the connector you may find one of these is your issue. With the connector apart it all looked clean but one of the male pins needed to be "expanded" a bit to keep a tight connection on the female side. We were having similar issues with an XJ last week end and found that connector to be the issue.
