I hate to tell you, but the bolts do play a big part in the feeling he is having. By two bolts and replace them. They are inexpensive. Follow Steves advice on remounting the calipers. I have fought this for two years, and first was the bolts, then the reassembly. They are just too damn finiky. Mine work great now.

Re the bolts, the sleeves they run in were seized solid in the calipers on my Special and the long bolts were mega tight with the top lock nuts missing, there was no " float " in the caliper. Took it all apart, lubed up the sleeve and bolt and that solved the pulsing brake problem.

Alright, I've got a plan now.
This upcoming weekend, I'll put a jack stand under the bike to get the front wheel off the ground, pull the calipers (check the bolts) check the trueness of the rotors with my caliper and maybe even hit them with some sand paper to 'deglaze' them.
One thing I do know is the right caliper rubber 'o-ring' isn't the same as the left. When I got the bike 2 years ago, there was no rubber on the right, so I got the closest I could find in my HF o-ring kit and put it in there.
Time to search boats.net to see if I can find the ring.

George, I doubt the size of that o-ring will effect the operation of the brakes at all. It's only purpose is to reduce friction to let the brake caliper twist against the fork.

I think you may be right about that. With the torque on the bolt, then the rubber will get 'squished' a little and I guess it's just to provide some vibration dampening.

              Update

Okay so Sunday I was over at TC's (rewelding my exhuast pipes)
and he put a dial indicator on my rotors.
The left rotor was out of round by about 8 thous. (while the right rotor was fine)
Clear as day seeing it on the dial indicator, but not so to the naked eye.

So the next step I guess would be to either replace the rotor (hopefully with one that is true), or maybe take it to a lathe and try to turn it down a little.
Either way, I'll probably swap in the G wheel/tire combo until I can get the SG rotor fixed. She might look a little funny without slotted rotors in the front, but at least I'll stop smoother.
