I'm assuming you mean a XJ11 AKA 'Maxim'. You are aware that both the charging and ignition systems are different compared to the XS bikes....

The charging system is a easy fix; use the XJ regulator. The chassis wiring is the same, it's plug-n-play. The XS regulator won't work right with the XJ alternator.... Don't have the regulator? Then you have to swap the alternator on the motor for the XS bits.

Not so easy for the ignition. The XJ uses it's own ignition box, in fact all the XJ ignition parts are unique, the XS boxes will not work. You have two choices; install the XJ box, and this isn't plug-n-play, there's rewiring involved. Or swap the entire XS engine ignition parts onto the XJ motor, which isn't that tough. It does all bolt on....

Two more differences, one minor, one major. The major difference is the XJ motor has the YICS system, and that complicates carb adjustments. There's a passage in the cylinder head that needs to be blocked to do a carb sync. Do a search for this, there's much more info elsewhere on this site.

The minor difference is the XJ doesn't have the oil pressure warning light; it has a 'low oil' light instead. You can install the pressure switch for the light on the XJ motor, or use the existing level indicator, or have both by simply connecting the pressure switch wire to the wire coming from the level indicator.
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
