That Special caliper bolt is an M8 X 1.25 and measures 92.5 MM long.

        Hi Tenorman,
Although I have a different front brake it uses the same bolt.
I found the shoulder bolts at my local Lowes.

No Phil, your bike doesn't have the bolt he needs. Your fork has two bosses that the caliper bolts to. His has one vertical bolt allowing the caliper to swivel.

            Hi Marty,
I think you will find the standard caliper uses the same bolt to hold the two parts of the caliper together.
The 2 bolts mounting the caliper to the fork are indeed different being bigger and shorter.

Hmmm. They certainly aren't the same part number. NLA for both. The Special one appears much longer.

Ah! would have to measure for length. The point i was trying to make was availability at Lowes. I have not found my local Fastenal store to be much use for small quantities of anything.

Ace will have them, only difference is the hex head will be 13MM instead of 12, have to carry extra tools now.

The 92.5mm length might also be a factory bulk purchase length. I think most of what you will find in the hardware stores are 95mm +/- and they will work (just a silly millimeter longer).

I was able to remove both front calibers and both bolts were straight as arrows. Grant it, my bike has 11,500 miles and some change, but what would cause the bolts to bend, unless the are real loose?

Repetitive stress...heat, and very hard braking. This is one area where Yamaha didn't OVERENGINEER something!

Loose bolts is one cause, but poor rotor/fork alignment will also do it. Yamaha is very specific about having the rotors centered in the slots on the forks because this represents the 'centerline' that the calipers pivot on. Have the rotors off to one side or the other and the caliper attempts to 'bend' in that direction. The downside to this is setting your rotor/fork alignment correctly can introduce misalignment/'stiction' into the fork operation, but there's no fix for it; it's the way it was designed....
