Alright, there may be a very simple overlooked answer to this question but I am stumped. Either google has let me down completely or multiple muffler types were used on the 1980 models. Every picture I seem to find of 1980 (or at least that gen) xs11's have what I would call a fluted or trumpet/funnel style muffler on them. Obviously some of these are not stock, but a lot are pictures seemingly from the time period where the bikes were new. My bike however, has tapered mufflers on it. That is to say the mufflers get smaller at the outlet. I am fairly certain that my bike is stock/unmolested for a few reasons. 1. It has only had two owners, original and then a friend of my fathers whom I purchased it from. And I know he did not work on it at all. 2. My mechanical knowledge is not too notch, but I am a fairly good welder, and I can look at the entire system and tell you that this is flawless and if it was redone, it was a very serious very expensive custom job.
Through all of this the simple question is, what was the deal with stock mufflers on '80 models, and is mine stock? If visual assistance is required I'll post some examples.
