Looks like boats net got wise to us ? Wanted to order these exhaust nuts but now the min. order costs $6.95 S&H

I bought one of these from Boats.net last year.




$1.49 each and if your order is less than $10 then shipping is only $1.75.

So let's do the math, $1.49 times 8 is $11.92, which is over the $10 limit, so split it up into 2 orders, 6 in the first order for $8.94 and then 2 more for $2.98. On the second order, you can find something for about $7 and still get the order under $10.

If the order is above $10 then shipping jumps to $6.95

I found that out last week.So I went to ace hardware and got 8mm hex connector nuts.They are about an inch long.Obviously they won't fit into the counter bores in the exhaust flanges.So I chucked them up in my Lathe and turned one end about 1/2 way back.They work great. Most people don't have a lathe,so you can just grind the points off and achieve the same results.

I found that out last week.So I went to ace hardware and got 8mm hex connector nuts.They are about an inch long.Obviously they won't fit into the counter bores in the exhaust flanges.So I chucked them up in my Lathe and turned one end about 1/2 way back.They work great. Most people don't have a lathe,so you can just grind the points off and achieve the same results.

Mr. Bodger has chucked parts in a hand drill or a drill-press and run them against a bench grinder or held a file against them to get a better looking result.
That was before he found a Bro with machine shop.

having a good friend with a machine shop is "money in the bank" my best friend larry is a machinist in a very high tech shop(they make some parts that are now in outer space) and he does little jobs and makes parts for me frequently. he just turned both my front brake rotors, every other place in town said they couldn't do it. took him about 2 hours of setup time after work one night. saved me a ton of money. all he ever asks in return is a burger and a coke, he's a great guy.

And then, to get closer to the OEM item, you take an 8 mm Allen wrench and grind the end to form a broach, and you can broach the outer end of the coupler nut to accept the Allen wrench. Drill the threads out first, to about 8.5 mm. It makes it easier to broach, and you still end up with plenty of grip.
When you find you can't pull the broach out after pushing it in, take the nut, with broach still in, place one flat of the nut on an anvil, and pound on the opposite face a lick or two, as though you were trying to flatten the broach. Turn it to the next face, and repeat the pounding. Go all the way around, pounding the six sides, and when you get back to side one, the broach should come out. If it doesn't, you were hitting it like a weak sister, so go back and put some hurt on it.
If the zinc plating is good, and your hammer technique is good, you can usually get by without doing too much harm to the plating. It just gets thinner.

Fix the old ones.

Glass bead/sand blast the old ones, paint them silver, and they look just like new. Don't need new ones. This works on the cylinder head acorn nuts as well.
