It looks like it's seated to me but it's been a few years since I almost grenaded, I mean carefully rebuilt, the transmission.

If you want to know how the shaft/bearing race are seating in relation to the head of the special bolt, put a dab of grease on the shaft and bearing race or underneath the bolt head and then tighten the bolt.

Or instead of just grease all by itself, this is golden opportunity to open up that packet of Red Plastigauge that no one uses but always comes bundled with the Green Plastigauge.

I finally had time to finish reassembling the bike after the trans repair. It runs and shifts great now. Thanks to everyone for all the help. Now I have a fuel leak at the back of the tank in the seam. I guess i named this bike appropriately.....Midnightmare. Luckily, I do have three other tanks in the shed. Hopefully I have one that is in decent shape. I'll have to check tomorrow.

On one of my 650s taking it for a little test run, my right knee felt warm/itchy, grabbed my leg and it was all wet, saw a very tiny stream shooting out of the tanks seam. Drained the tank dried it with yellow HEET emptied a tube of super glue into the tank where the leak was and put it on the self on a tilt so the glue would stay in the seam. Came back a week later and the glue was dry with a little drop on the outside of the tank, never had a leak again.

Have not started on my trans yet, I'm still reading all the reports of trans fixes and problems. Printed out TC's fix, I'm getting ready but ,,,,, ? ? ?

            Hi XSives !
In all the manuals I have they only show one washer on the bolt behind the clutch basket that holds the drive axle. But OEM parts shows three. When I took out that bolt I was careful to hold onto the big washer but seconds after removing it another smaller washer fell to the floor, would appear they all go together on that bolt. Here's what I have.

Sorry if I doubled up on this post ?

            Thank You ! Done };~)

I found out the other day that the 81 and XJs have that big washer but I don't know about the smaller one. Maybe trbig will jump in here. He might know.

Yup.. 78-80, no washers. 81 and the XJs have both washers. The bolt has the same part number for all the years. Probably a fix because of the bolt backing out on some.
