    Unknown part left over after reassembly

    Hello all,

    On behalf of my brother who owns a 81 XS1100, he found an extra part left over after minor teardown and rebuild.

    I thought it was a carb jet, but I was wrong.

    Any ideas?

          Looks like an orifice or some, not a carb part. I've never seen this part... sorry I cant help much.

            A ruler or something next to it for scale would have been helpful?

            IT has a central hole like a jet, but not the full head like most of the jets on our carbs. So...even though it has a central hole, it may not be a necessary function? It almost looks like a set screw...like on the carb choke rod??

              That looks like a restrictor of some sort; could this have been screwed into a oil passage somewhere?

                Thats what I thought too, carb jets would be brass and these look like steel...

                  I agree scale would be helpful. If those were in the carbs, as there are four identicle parts, then I am wondering if some PO used those instead of the right plugs in the early model carbs, or if they were in the mixture screw holes perhaps?? Obvously complete guesses. And yes I see he has an 81, but we all know how carbs get swapped on these bikes.

                    I've had a few of these motors apart.. and have never seen that part, so if it's actually from this 1100 motor, it's a new one on me.

                    Is this 4 screws.. or just one taken from different views like I had thought?

                      those go to the carbs. I just tore mine down and they go on were the floats are. dont remove the floats. it is next to the other flat head screw that is there. Make sure that they are clear and clean they look a little dirty. But I am 100% sure that those go to the carbs cause I dealt with them yesterday. I dont know the name of them. Again those go to the carbs. If you take off the bottoms of the carbs you will see right in the middle were they screw in cause it will have another screw that screws in adjacent above them that is a flat head. Takes about 10 minutes to do all 4

                            They look like oil jets, similar to those on the FJ, that spray oil onto the crankshaft bearings. They are screwed into the lower crankcase. JAT.
