Have any of you changed the stock handgrips to something a little more comfortable? i.e. softer and fuller for big hands? Also, have you changed to a handlebar that gives a more upright position for a tall person? Thanks.

I have the Kuryakyn grips and LOVE them. The SG I just sold had mini apes on it. Rode nice, needs a longer clutch cable, brake line.

I give the Kuryakyn Iso grips another vote. They are larger and more comfortable! I would put them on everything if I had more bikes!

Little spendy but absolutly worth it!

Parts-N-More has these for $17. They're probably the same as the ones I got from Mike's XS. They're fat, inexpensive, and work fine.

I second the inexpensive ones. Have had them on mine since I did my rebuild in 2000. They are holding up okay, but my bike is garage kept, not sure how well the rubber would hold up if stored outside all the time?

As to the handlebars, check out MikesXS, they have a great assortment of styles. I ride a special, and swapped out the buckhorns for a set of early model GL 1100 bars....better wrist angle and similar spread and rise and pullback. But it can be difficult to tell how they will fit/feel without actually trying them out in person. So...you may want to visit a used bike shop to try them out.

Those are what I just took off mine and replaced with the Iso grips. Not a bad way to go at all. I liked them enough to put them on the XJ650 after I I got my Isos. Theyre very fat so pretty comfortable.

Assuming a bit longer grips being what your after, can change the throttle tube using a Yammy R1 throttle tube in your existing right side assembly. Just use the throttle rotation slot for the cable. The other cable slot is for the return cable on the newer bikes. Then you can use the inch longer grips. The only issue may or may not be the mirrors setting inboard another inch, which can obstruct rear visibility.

Same set I have. Functional and comfortable, but after five years, (garage kept) the foam is starting to get a bit firm. But hey, for a twenty spot, five years isn't too bad...

I have a set that the foam came off. I still use them like that but I wonder if some sort of golf-club or tennis wracket weap would be good. Anyone tried that?
