  • Turn signal troubles. Need help

    I have a 81 xs1100 venturer, The problem is the signals will light up but will not blink. I have changed the flasher and still the same problem and the 4ways do work. so any help would be appreciated as I would like to finish this bike and put it on the road.

    2 questions;

    1) did you replace the flasher with a stock self cancelling one or an aftermarket?

    2) What type bulbs are you using? (conventional or LED)

        if you have a fairing, make sure that's plugged in, and that you have a good ground...

          Try a 2 prong automotive flasher. You lose the self canceler but at least it'll flash.

          When you turn on the TS try tapping on the stock flasher and see if it'll start working. They tend to stick after they've sat for a while.

          Sometimes you can get them working again just by MAKING them go and using them a while.

                  Tan and tan/wht. Grn/yel is for the self canceller, leave that slot empty. You can test this with your 2 prong hazard flasher if you wish.

                    Phil is right. I went out and actually LOOKED at it last night and I thought it was as I said. Looked again this morning and it's as Phil says.

                    I guess I need glasses.

                    Thanks Phil.

                      Try unplugging the turn canceller first. If you have loose/dirty connections in it's plug, the turns will light but not flash. The turns will work, just not cancel, with it unplugged.

                        If your voltage is too low they won't blink, try it with the bike running at about 2k rpm.
