I decided to replace the tiny o-rings on the idle mixture screws before putting the carbs back on the bike (thanks for the Suzuki part #s Motoman). The screws and springs came out easy but I had to fish the washers and o-rings out with a paper clip, a couple didn't want to come out. This is what I had:

You can see that the spring and washer slide onto the long straight shoulder of the screw with room to spare, but the o-ring only slides up the tapered shoulder, it won't fit over the straight shoulder with the spring and washer.
What holds the o-ring and washer so tightly in place in the carb (a couple were hard to get out with the paperclip) if there is space on the screw between the spring/washer and the o-ring? I don't see how tightening the screw in the tower puts tension on the o-ring if the o-ring doesn't fit the screw. Just trying to make sure I put it back together correctly.
Thanks for any insight.
