  • Carb mixture screws

Hi , I have just fitted carb rebuild kits to my XS1100SF 79 , but when I fitted the mixture screws the old ones ranged from 2.5 turns out from fully screwed in to 4.5 turns , does anybody know the correct setting as my manual says (DO NOT TOUCH THEM) some use when your fitting new ones. Many thank Bish.

My manual also says DO NOT TOUCH but then says the factor default is 1 1/4 turns out.

Use your sync gauges to achieve the highest vacuum reading on each cylinder. First sync the carbs, then turn the #1 mixture screw in or out to get the highest vacuum reading. There will only be a slight change but you will see it. Repeat for the other 3 mixture screws> Readjust the main idle adjustment knob to keep the idle around 1100 during this process.

I'll add a good starting point after a rebuild is about 2 turns out.

I just finished a rebuild of the carbs on the same bike and two full turns out to start was perfect.
