  • painted top half of engine

i have been wanting to repaint my engine for a while now, so i figured i would give it a try. i took the half arssed, on a budget, not wanting to take the bike apart route. so i did alot of taping and and took my time to make sure the engine was as clean as be and degreased. i started with letting the engine warm up a little, then applied high heet primer, then three coats of the matte black engine paint. once the paint had dried i started the bike and ran it at idle for about 15min. to help to bake the paint. i then took some sandpaper and sanded the paint off of the fins. i think it turned out pretty good, considering that it is a rattle can job, without taking out the engine.

    this is the before.

    this is the after.

i am going to get all stainless bolts for the top half of the engine, and all black bolts on the rest of the engine. should look pretty good when i am done.

Looks killer to me man! I might half copy you, except polish the cam cover, and polish what I can pull off of the bottom end (side covers, clutch cover, etc) but at the same time my bike build is quite a bit different route than yours...

Nice work! That is actually almost stock for the 81 engine. Head was not originally painted, and the fins on the valve cover were also polished.

Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.
