    taken the heat

I think the heat range between car or liquid cooled engines and air cooled engines is pretty significant. Most liquid cooled car parts never exceed the low 200 degree range. Air cooled motorcycle engines can exceed that by quite a bit, especially around the exhaust ports.
I have painted the XS11 headers with BBQ paint which does not hold up, turns gray and then white. The paint made for headers only cures when it is heated to that range and does not turn colors as it gets cooked. Thats been my experience, YMMV
