  • Rear tire cable opperation?

can anyone give me a detailed description on how to use this rear tire cable thing, my customer has all the original tools from yamaha still in the original yamaha bag

just to get you up to speed, i was refered to this forum from XJbikes.com were i am an avid member. I own an 82' XJ750j. (among other yamaha dirtbikes :P) this is my first XS i have ever worked on and seen in person (beautiful i might add) im doing an entire brake job on this XS1100, front and rear, (lines, MC's, and calipers) i have frozen calipers all around, the rear is just not wanting to come off with out me taking off the tire. the 2 front calipers are off and pistons freed and cleaned, just waiting to take off the rear and move on from there.

Exactly! Limits suspension when removing tire.

It is to lift the rear swingarm up so the axle clears the exhaust. It is only an issue ont he Standard models. The Specials exhaust stops short of the axle.

Yea it's really a nifty tool! Update - All calipers off and clean. Removed rear MC but haven't disassembled, already knew it needed to be rebuilt. So gonna take it apart when I get the kits in. Same with the front MC. Gonna go with the 1 piece line for the rear, and all normal up front for everything.

Ill be taking the carbs off soon, he said he thought the carbs were clogged at 1 point in time so he took an air compressor and blew air threw one of the fuel line. This I am assuming bent the tang on the floats and is why he's getting gas in his oil. But either way I will go through them and order him a new intake boot kit. Do these intake boot bolts have the same prob with seizing as the XJ's? If so I know my cordless impact will work great and a little bit of heat from the torch. (been threw this with my XJ, snapped 2 before grabing the impact)

And also how do I change my sig, and location lol. Didn't see it in the account area

If this is a 78-79 model (or the carbs are the older model carbs) they will have brass floats. It is entirely possible he collapsed a float or more pushing the compressed air in the fuel line like that.

I have removed the boots form a couple of pretty well neglected XS11s, one sat out in a farm field for a couple years. Never had any problem with seized bolts.

If you look in the dark blue line toward the top of the page you will see the "User CP" link, go in there and then select "Edit your details". Scroll down to the additional information section and you will see where your location is listed, you can change that there. Now look at the left hand list under "Settings and Options" Second link down is "Edit Signature".
