    Can I use this aftermarket starter solenoid?

    It seems pretty basic, Jegs model, I'm only concerned about this part: "WARNING! This solenoid DOES NOT use suppression diodes. Use of this solenoid on vehicles with Engine Control Computers will result in permanent damage to the computer/processor."

    I'm replacing the stock because of where I want to mount it, and it's the same cost to just get an aftermarket one or machine a bracket.

    Are there others that people would recommend?

      You could use it, or get one that fits at Mikesxs.net, Part #40-2461. They come up on ebay, too. Oh nevermind, I actually read what you wrote.

      Go ahead and use it.

          It works with the existing wiring and comes with a bracket to mount it.

              That's your basic 50-70s Ford starter solenoid and won't work with the XS wiring. The reason it won't work is it doesn't have a 'ground' terminal for the coil, getting that through the mount/chassis. The XS solenoid coil is wired with an always-hot supply wire, the starter button supplies the ground path.

              The two small terminals you see on the Ford solenoid are 'start' and 'ignition' (identified with S and I). The S terminal operates the solenoid, the I terminal becomes a 12V supply when the solenoid is closed to bypass the ballast resistor.

                  It can be used if he fabricates the proper isolating mount.

                      The other thing is I don't think he realizes just how big that solenoid is; it's about twice the size of the OEM unit....

                                  Yup, I just grabbed one off of e-bay. Mine fits everything from 4 wheelers to street bikes. The wiring plug is the same too.
                                  "The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.
