  • Just built TRBIG's valve spring compressor

OK, this is a cool tool, but I gotta tell you, the shim bucket is HARD! Make sure you are using Canadian or US drillbits, as chinese bits just smoke nicely and do nothing.
I was using a drillpress, but even that was a challenge, I dropped the speed to 1100rpm and was literally hanging off the end of the handle! I finally got a 3/16pilot hole through the bucket, but resorted to my 1/4" highspeed die grinder with a pointed carborundum stone! That did two things; made a great spark show, but also heated the bucket up enough to get rid of some of it's temper/hardness. After that I was able to drill it with a good 1/2" Canuck bit. Worth the effort though, it's gonna work great!!!
Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

LOL.. Yeah they're hard. You have to keep the bit lubed up and slow, but glad you got the hole made. I think these are designed to be just as hard as the shims.

Pics would just be a shim bucket with a hole in it and a "C" clamp.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Kudos to you Rasputin for sending me the bucket! Do you have a good valve spring compressor yourself?

Never yet needed one as I kind of go silly when I work on these motors. Might save me a step or two if went this way though.

Nice. I puff a little smoke on cold start. I may over next winter pull the head, decarbon everything and run my carbide over casting flash and burrs in the ports and bowls. On my XS650 head a did a quickie polish of the combustion chambers and did the exh ports in 120 grit. Honestly probably no increase in power but it was fun easy and didnt take long to do!

That is a hell of a lot better than the one I made. The valve keepers are way more accessible (biggest headache!)
