  • Middle Drive Filler Plug

When I went to change the Middle drive oil, I noticed the filler plug allen hole has been stripped by the previous owner. I will slot it with a dremel to get it out, but I would like to know what size bolt it is so I can get one ahead of time.

    Thank you,

Both the middle and final drive drain and fill plugs are the same thread, as well as the pol drain plug. All can be interchanged as the threads are the same.

Although the final drive fill plug needs to be a little shorter than the others.

When you get a new fill plug for the middle get one for the final as well, same crappy Allen hole.

Its 14 X 2 mm. I had the same problem with my final drive bung, I ended up welding a nut to it, ( the heat helps loosen it ) presto. My middle drive bung was in good condition but I still couldn't get it undone even with a pipe on the allen key, so I took the bike for a short ride to warm everything up ( thanks Brian W ) then tried again, got it.

Go one better, replace them both (mid and final) with a magnetic hex head drain plug, no more allen!:

You can get the magnetic drain plugs at the auto parts store for $2-4.

Yes, true, Nate but it's hard to find the ones with the narrow shoulder on them to fit the final drive. At least, that's what I've found. Some of the guys have ground them down to fit, but that's not my preference.

That is true. This is only a problem for the final drive whith the recessedseating surface. I just held my cheap bolt lightly in my fingers and let it roll as I held it to the bench grinder. Took it down just right and fits perfect.

                      Correction , its 14 x 1.5 not 14 x 2 as I stated earlier, that one from Amazon is 14 x 1.25 so be careful,

There is no problem at all with the stock ones if you use a nylon washer.
