  • I think I win the contest of spoog in the brake system.

My front brakes are hanging up I think, the front tire doesn't easily spin like the rear does.

So, I totally took apart the system.... This is an example of what I found...

    This was under the master...

This sludge was in both calipers..

I cleaned the whole system, flushed and bled... But I think it's still hanging up.

I can't remove the master to give it a better cleaning, it's corroded to the handlebar... So I think I'm gonna just cut it off and replace it with a 16mm mike's Xs master.

Hate to say it, but that looks like new fluid compared to what I have pulled out myself and seen in other bikes on here.

But it is sad how bad it got without being given some love.

you probably have the same crap in the lines. Better off to replace them as weel if you can afford it or you will chase the problem forever.

If you have the money it is not a bad idea to put new kits in the MC and the calipers. However, very often, if you clean up the parts you have, they will work just fine for years to come. Never know till you get in and see the condition of the rubber components. Even bigger issue is if the pistons are corroded in the calipers. You might want to check that out first.

I'm happy to say this is one contest I am HAPPY to lose! When I went through the brake system on my 79F last year, I was very surprised how good everything looked. Very little rust and almost no spoog in the system. Of course, the bike has lived it's whole life in the desert, so that probably has a LOT to do with it!

I just did the rear brake yesterday.... It locked up totally. Lol...

The caliper had so much goop behind it.... Oh man... Took everything apart and cleaned it up.

                        Works like new. Lol.
