Does the signal just stay on? If so, you might try cleaning out the turn signal switch on the handlebar. It is a "momentary contact" switch and if it gets gummed-out in there, it makes continuous contact. New parts cost a fortune.

John is right about how to turn off the signals manually. If your flasher is burned out, the replacement is very expensive, over $40.00. A two prong heavy duty automotive flasher works just fine. Just remove the old one, and put the two prong one in, andn if your flashers don't work, use the other prong, as one of the three is for the self-cancelling function. In other words, there are three prongs on the original, and two on the automotive one. You just don't use one of them. Roverput something smooooth betwen your legs, XS eleven

I'll check the turn signal switch and see if it needs cleaned, as well as the cancellation unit itself. When I use the signals, they do continue flashing, and pushing the switch button down turns it off manually. It's just a little quirk of mine: if something is supposed to be there and isn't, I replace it, and if it's not working, I fix it, if at all possible.
I'll reply back to this thread, newmaac, after I see if cleaning helps. I might get with you anyway, never hurts to have a few spare parts around just in case.If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game. (borrowed from strom)

Just looked up the part numbers on BikeBandit.com (thanks Steelcat), and you're right Rover:
flasher relay: $68.62 + shipping
flasher cancel unit: $74.19 + shipping
Here's hoping a good contact cleaning is all I need.........If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game. (borrowed from strom)

For the turn signals, in addition to the cancelling unit there is a sending unit that is part of the speedometer. This unit ticks off 1/4 to 1/2 mile IIRC, then electrically trips the cancelling unit. there is a post on this site that describes using WD-40 to clean out the works. Do a search. Check out the wiring from the Speedo first, clean all of the comnnections and see what you get.
