Knowledge is the unmatched power from within.

'sides most likely these bikes are older than the techs at the shops and they aren't too schooled in this particular era nowadays

Oh and a quote from one of my favorite musicians of said era:

"How does it feeeel" Bob Dylan
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
    1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
    1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
    1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
    1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

          Hey Nate,

You've probably hit on the problem, the site is not optimized for smart phone browsers, just real computers, IE, Firefox and such. It has been pointed out to us by others about upgrades to the software to make it more smartphone friendly, but I'm only the housekeeper, the owner isn't very involved or interested in working on the site, and the I.T. guy we had do the last upgrade a couple of years ago has a LIFE/JOB that keeps him quite busy, yada, yada, so don't hold your breath for any significant program changes to the site anytime soon!

That is too bad because it would be really great if someone fixed the access to the site for regular computers. I would bet that a lot of members would be staying longer if they had consistent access to the site. I have had nothing but hassle getting on the site lately and sometimes it kicks me off in the middle of reading the forums.
The whole proxy thing is above a lot of people and I have not had a lot of luck with it myself. It gets very frustrating trying to get on the site some days. I do not know why but some days it says the forum is not able to be found but I can access it thru other means. I have done every trick in the book and even spent 6 hours on the phone with the router manufacturer trying to get on the site.
Maybe we could all pony up on the donations to encourage the owner to act or hire someone to fix things up. I know I have donated a few times but kind of holding back as I am tired of spending an hour to access the site every couple of days.
This site is the reason I have my XS11 addiction and access to it is important to myself and countless others.

              I remember

a few years ago I had a lot of trouble getting on the site and thought I'd picked up a virus and passed it on to the site.
I down loaded I think it was called fire fox an alternate operating system(it was free) you could chose either or after bios start up. It got me on right away. You could try that. I'm not having any problems getting on with this computer, but haven't tried the search option for several months. I'll give it a shot , be right back

I'm only using firefox for reading the forums and have no issues at all from the computers I use 3 or 4 total.

My android doesn't seem to have any issues either when I access the site with it...

                    Hey Rasputin,

Sorry to hear about your access problems! It's been noted that the Host's servers and their related DNS tables sometimes get messed up, but that's been cleared now for many months...they had physically moved the site's files to another server machine which started the problems. Even "I" was locked out for many days during the problem period, but it's been fine for months now. I used Internet Explorer 9 on my laptop Vista system. I used IE 8 on my desktop WinXP system, and I've also used Firefox, both work just fine.

First, I'm going to quote the info about how to edit the HOST file so that your browser will go directly to the site and not have to rely on the servers DNS routing to find the site! I can't recall who provided this?

The HOSTS file is used to assign IP addresses to hostnames on a local machine and the HOSTS file is consulted before the computer makes any remote DNS requests to resolve a hostname to an IP address.

I have been seeing intermittent DNS problems again lately with the site disappearing off the 'net and being unreachable, then suddenly reappearing. I put the IP address and hostname for XS11.com into my HOSTS file, reset the connection, and so far it has worked.

The HOSTS file is in the Windows directory and you should open and edit it only with a plain text editor like Notepad.exe, not a word processor like MS Word:

                    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

                    127.0.0.1 localhost

                    *******************************************
Ras, do you know how to bring up an MSDOS window, and then run the Tracert program to our site so view the HOPS that your access has to go thru to get to the site, and it can show where it's hanging up!

Okay, once you open up a CMD prompt/window...here's the command to type in to run the program and output it to a text file. You can change the output parameters if you want..I have a C:\temp folder to put them into! You will NOT see the results in the CMD window, it can take 30seconds or more to complete, then you'll just see the CMD cursor drop to the next line when it's done. Then you can find/open the file to view it, it may look something like this:

                    Type tracert www.xs11.com >c:\temp\tracert.txt

                    Tracing route to www.xs11.com [64.119.182.118]

                    Trace complete.
Before doing this, first just bring up the browser and make sure that you CAN access the site...then do the tracert and have the file. THEN next time you can NOT access the site, run the Tracert program again....CHANGE the output file name so it won't write over the ACCESS/Good tracert results. Then you can compare them to see WHERE the hangup is occuring.

BTW: I saw a news report today about how OUR/USA sites and such are under CYBER ATTACK from China and such with Denial of Service attacks...
which has been slowing down folks access and speeds across the country, like poor or no streaming of Netflix, things like that??? I don't think that is your problem since you've apparently been having this access issue for months, and these ATTACKS have just been happening the last few days!

be aware that recently there's been coordinated Ddos attacks on Spamhaus from cyberbunker. They claim that the attack has affected access to many different web sites sporadically.

So, if you've just recently (last couple of days) been having problems, that may be related...
