front wheel interchange?

Hello I have an 82 xj1100 and the front wheel is bent and I need a replacement will the xj xs 550 and up front wheel work on the xj1100? Thanks

Hi Jim,
if and only if (someone chime in here because I dunno) XS11 & XJ11 front wheels will interchange,
any XS series front wheel will fit, including a wire wheel from an XS650.

I have found a few on ebay some are listed for 550 to 1100, 650 to 1100, 550 to 750, 750 to 1100 so I dont know what realy will interchange.

Hi Jim,
all XS series front wheels interchange. I know for sure because I done it.
My own XS11SG has been rolling on an XS650 front since the last tire swap.
What I don't know is if XS fronts swap with XJ11 swirly fronts or if any or all of the XJ series fronts interchange.
Someone who has tried it will have to tell us.

I do not know the answer to your question, however, I will tell you for certain that 90% of the ebay sellers have no clue and will assume they fit when they list it, but put a disclaimer in the ad for you to make sure it fits before you bid.

An 81 midnight Special XS11 front wheel should be the same fit also as the 82 XJ11, the swirly type. If you don't care if they match, any XS11 wheel will fit. The picture at the top of the forum page shows the two different types.

Hey James,

A review of the AXLES for the XJ and XS11's are the same...it has been superceded with a newer #, but it shows the old # as well.

The XJ650's for example show a different newer number, and seems to be the same for the XJ smaller series bikes, so I'm thinking that they are a different SIZE...and probably would NOT fit. As has been stated, we know that the XS series bikes, at least the XS650's will fit, but they've been around a lot longer, so that's probably why they have/use the same axle as the XS11's, and XJ11, but the XJ 550's and 650's are newer creations, and I would think the axles are smaller/lighter weight.

SO...to be on the safe side, select either a XS650 or 1100 or XJ11 wheel!

Yes, the XS1100 front wheels are all the same. Now, you may need to swap out the speedo drive from the XJ wheel though.

Ok thanks would the matching 7 spoke xs1100 work also even though its 17"?
