Somewhere on here there is a printable sheet that has the dipsticks on it. The dipstick is 2 sided and one side is the middle drive and the other side is the final drive. I think the page might also be on catatonic bugs website (link is in his signature line).

The middle drive you definitely need the dipstick, for the final you can just look inside. The oil level should just be up to the bottom of the filler hole threads. Make sure you use the proper 6MM Allen wrench to loosen the filler plugs, otherwise they will strip out on you.
Is there a way to check the oil level in the middle gearbox and final gearbox? - - -
Hi Steve,
if your bike still has it's tool kit there should be a white plastic double ended dipstick in it.
If not there's a drawing of one you can dig out using the list's search function.
The hard part is getting the filler plugs undone.
The effin' stylists made them with a shallow dome head with a 6mm Allen key recess in it.
And you can't push down straight on the Allen key to break them loose.
Using an Allen socket and a prybar to press the ratchet straight down is your best hope.
There's a whole string on the various methods folks have had to use to get those plugs undone.

In a pinch, you can also use a metal coat hanger to fashion it like a sardine can key and scribe marks at and between the low and high marks. That is what I have as a spare set of dipsticks.

HERE is the tech tip on the dipstick. It is under the maintenance section under Oil-Lubrication.
When time comes to check mine, I cut a piece of cardboard and mark the lines on it. Use it to check the oil levels and pitch it. When in doubt, over fill a little.
