Removing cable from clutch end??

Ok, popped sidecover loose, it's sitting on the engine still. I went to remove the sidecover end of the cable, but there's no slot to slide the cable end out of it's bracket???? How the heck are we replacing a clutch cable, or does it come with a whole new bracket and pivot pin etc etc? I've looked at it 3 different ways and it looks like I either remove the pivot pin or unscrew the center adjust and nut right off and remove the lever too???

Look closely, and you'll see a little 'tab' that needs to be bent out of the way. Try not to break it off, so be gentle....

Oh for cryin' out loud, I've NEVER seen that kind of setup in a million years on bikes! Thanks Steve! I'm used to the slot you pull the cable end down and through.

Hi Courtney,
it's another one of Yamaha's brilliant ideas. The XS650 clutch cable retainer works the same way.
The little tab will snap off the second time it gets straightened and re-bent.
But not to worry, the cable will work without the little tab.
Just keep an eye on it as you hook up the lever end.
Once the cable is in at both ends it can't fall out.

Yeah that sounds about right Fred. I can see that some creative safety wire or a zip tie will be getting used in the future if it does break off. Stupid idea.
