Forgot to mention that when I pulled back the faring I noticed that the bike had headlight brackets (wired together with a snap tie). Maybe it was originally a sport model and modified later.

Actually, the Venturer could be stripped to legally run that way. Headlite comes out of fairing and bolted to the brackets. Only thing missing is the front signal stems to do that. The wires are already existing to plug'n'play. It was advertised, pictured and sold as a Venturer model, full fairing with lowers, frontal tip-over/'crash' bars,wrap-around tip-over frame work/side case saddles, and rear luggage rack with an adjustable slide-in back rest, based on a Standard chassis with suspension, ignition upgrades along with an added oil cooler set-up from the factory.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

A little added info for you. I have always jetted my SHs (I used to have two of them) 110 across all four. They ran nice that way. Got between 32 and 42 MPG depending how far I was riding, and how much travel my right wrist gave that throttle.
My current SH has aftermarket 4-2 Exhaust. Factory headers with aftermarket slip-ons, I think they are Jardine, not really sure. I recently swapped 120s in for the 110s. I can tell you without a doubt that my top end is much better now. I do not think I lost any bottom end from the change. And my gas mileage has not noticeably changed. YMMV.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Interesting - I will monitor the performance and see what happens. I pieced the carbs back together today and the next task is to join them together. I separated the units for cleaning.81H Venture - hope to ride summer 2013

Another strange thing about my bike is that it has the Special style handlebars. The engine is silver but the valve cover is black. Some nut filled the insignia mount on the tank and I cannot mount a logo unless I can somehow dissolve the bonding. The tank is the larger touring model.81H Venture - hope to ride summer 2013

Yep, one of those subtle differences in the H versus the other models. The larger tank never had screw on emblems, they were stick on.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I guess the guy that sold it to me was right - stick ons? I thought he wanted to make a bad ass black bike with no logo that looked like a Harley. Are the stick -ons still available?81H Venture - hope to ride summer 2013

I have never tried to remove the butterfly shafts on a decent set of carbs, but I have on a junk set I had here. From my experience, it is one of the hardest things to do on the bike. Those little bugger screws are peened over on the back, so you have to remove that some how, then remove the screws, now get the shaft to slide off of the butterfly plate without bending one or the other.
IMHO, that is one of those things where "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" way to much chance to bugger something up.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Some guys over on the XS650 site are using 2mm x 7mm viton o-rings also.
When I do mine I'll go with OEM stock Yamaha.Last edited by Schming; 02-19-2013, 02:07 PM.1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors)
