    Hey there Allie,

Glad to see you made it to the forums, and have already figured out the photos....you're SMART! You did promise pictures, I was hoping to see one of YOU as well as your bike! Maybe later? Phew, glad that wasn't YOUR garage!!

As has been asked, we're wondering what kind of experience you have regarding both riding, as well as mechanical ability, because these old machines need good hands-on treatment....no place to plug a computer analyzer to them! Most shops won't touch them because of their age, and most of the young "techs" don't know much about working on them. And it'll cost you several times more $$ than what it's worth to have someone else work on it, so we hope you like to get your hands dirty!

Hope you like to read, there's lots of info here on the site that you'll want to familiarize yourself with BEFORE attempting to work on the bike. As a sidenote, the Carbs 101 tip was compiled by one of our other rare "lady Xsives" out in Texas! She prefers her FJ11. Okay, I'll shut up now, read up and then chat here with any questions before you dive into the bike.

thanks for the welcome. My other bike is an 08 gsxr 750 and a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE. Today I actually stumbled on another bike find I might have to pick up as well. When I showed the pictures to my friend one of them said his dad has some older yamahas that he wants to get rid of. He said they are xs650s. I did a little research and they seem like a popular bike too. I have the gas cap and a custom seat in the box of parts. Any of you guys ride the xs650? BTW GOOD MORNING!!!

The XS650's are even more popular in a lot of ways. A lot of people are using them to build choppers because the engine looks old and vintage, and is a chain drive. They make a great cafe, and dirt track bike too. I had one last year that I bought for 80 bucks. I wanted to build it too, but was engrossed in my XJ build and the 650 had no title. Another cool Yamaha that gets attention is the XS750 and 850 Triples.

Thanks Yard Dogg! I have four XS650's in the garage and a pretty good collection of parts, including fuel tanks. I love the XS650, and compared to the XS1100, parts are far more plentiful, so long as you can tolerate Chinese reproduction.
