hey guys. My name is Allie. I Just got a 1979 xs11 from a friend. its in need of some love but he said this was a great resource for help. I'm new to vintage bikes. i'll take some pictures today. looking forward to talking to you all!

You've got a 'Special' there, with what appears to be an XJ exhaust on it. Hopefully, you've got the missing carbs and maybe the other assorted bits but most can be found if not. The biggest 'issue' is the frame has been hacked off at the rear so anything you do there will have to be custom unless you repair the frame.

But all in all, some have started with less/worse so you've got something to work with.

the original owner wanted to make a cafe racer and I kinda want to do the same. I do have the carbs in a box but they are completely disassembled

You have come to the right place. The level of knowledge, expertise, and creativity here is awe-inspiring. More importantly, the generosity of members to share that knowledge and skill is heart-warming.

It looks like you have a '79 Special. There are threads here about the first steps you should take when you get ahold of a neglected xs11. The theme seems to be to figure out what you have and what's wrong with it before starting to fix and change things. Otherwise, you'll never be able to solve problems.

I'd be curious to see a picture of the box of carb parts.

Nice find on the bike. It's in pretty good shape compared to the junk I usually get a hold of. You said you are new to vintage bikes, what do you normally ride?

Welcome Allie! You have a "Special" project there for sure!! (Pun intended of course). Missing a few key components like gas cap and seat. Hardtails are typically not all their cracked up to be. Even Paul Sr. of OCC fame was quoted to say, he has screwed up his back and kidneys from all the years of riding hard tails. To each their own though.

Yepm you got a question, this group will answer it, and usually with good information, often mixed with some bad jokes, puns, or a little bit of ridicule or disgruntled mention of dislike for your modification by some. But it is all in good fun and with good intentions.

You have the right style of bars for a cafe, however, you may find a Standard tank to be more suited to the style. You could craft a seat for the beast by hand. Lots of options. Good luck with where ever it goes, and when in doubt, ask a question of the group here. Many people have come in asking how to fix something they broke or messed up that would have been avoided if they asked a question or two before forcing something, or moving ahead blindly.
